Mission Statement:
The Grenada Sports and Well-being Foundation empowers the youth of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique to thrive by promoting their physical and mental well-being through sports and the arts.
Background:
The Grenada Sports and Well-being Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that seeks to empower children and young adults from Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique by using sports and culture as tools for education and well-being. In our efforts to address some of the systemic issues that are affecting our youth today, we seek to do the following:
- Advance health standards in disadvantaged communities by providing information and education about health issues and the benefits of physical activity
- Provide education in basic physiology and the health benefits provided by physical activity
- Provide educational enrichment opportunities to young people, including scholarships
- Invigorate cultural traditions to promote leadership and social engagement
- Encourage gender diversity at a leadership level in the community.
Programs:
To meet its goals, the GSWF provides the following services:
- Programs promoting health and well-being, targeting obesity, diabetes and heart disease via participation in physical activity
- Organized sporting activities and training camps
- After-school Supplemental Education Programs/Tutoring
- Culture and Arts Workshops, including: Creative Writing and Design, Media Production (Podcasting, Film, and Video), Big Drum Dance
- Courses in sports coaching.
- Scholarships for overseas study to promising young leaders.
